With so many sports and summer camps cancelled this summer, we know Nova Scotia kids may struggle to find ways to stay active. Thanks to ongoing support from our partners and sponsors, Kids Run Club is offering a summer run club to inspire kids, and maybe families, to keep moving and have some fun at the same time!
Choose from three training goals of 2, 4 or 5 km, take part in weekly themes and WIN PRIZES by sharing posts of your adventures in running on Facebook or Twitter. Runners who register and train with us will receive a KRC drawstring bag at the end of the program to celebrate all the running they have done over the summer.
We’ve created Kids Run Club at Home packages in French and English to guide kids, and hopefully their families, in running from home this summer. The packages include three training options and tips for improving running and making it more fun. Our KRC reps and special guests will post videos each week on our Facebook page sharing their top tips to help participants of all abilities experience success.
Kids Run Club at Home will last 8 weeks beginning the week of June 29th and includes 3 runs each week. With help from their parents, participants will select a running route close to home measuring 250-500 metres that will be repeated depending on the length of the scheduled run. We also recommend using a variety of running routes and locations if possible to keep the running more interesting.
Weekly Themes and Prizes!
Each week has a theme that families can use to add some extra fun. This might be dressing in red & white to celebrate Canada Day for one of the runs in Week 1 or getting up extra early to do a sunrise run during Week 4. Everyone who shares a picture or video of their theme run will be entered to win a KRC hoodie each week as well as being entered in a draw to win one of five pairs of running shoes at the conclusion of the program in August.
Be sure to check out our Let’s Keep Moving #AlphabetActivityChallenge you can use as a warm-up or just to add a little extra movement to your day. Make up your own challenge or select from the high energy videos posted in French and English on the Kids Run Club YouTube page.
Kids Run Club at Home will conclude the week of August 21st with the final run of 2, 4 or 5 kilometres. Participants are encouraged to download a final run bib which they can personalize and a certificate of achievement (English or French) that recognizes their hard work and determination.
